PROMINENT lawyer Greg Barns has accused Tony Abbott of appealing to the “Hansonite fringe” with his pledge to repeal or amend section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.
Addressing the Institute of Public Affairs in Melbourne yesterday, the Opposition Leader said a Coalition government would repeal 18C — under which nine light-skinned Aboriginal people brought an action against News Limited columnist Andrew Bolt — while maintaining a prohibition on inciting hatred or intimidation of racial groups.
