PressTV – US private jail owners capitalizing on prisoners

James Kilgore, University of Illinois professor and author, says privately-run prisons have become a lucrative source of income for their owners. In an interview with Press TVs U.S. Desk on Sunday, Kilgore said, “Basically, capitalizing on the process of mass incarceration which has been going since the early 1980s, largely focused around a war on drugs which has been racially targeted and has led to the incarceration now of around 2.3 million people, about 70 percent of them being people of color, in particular African-Americans.” Kilgore also said theres been a long history of lawsuits against the private prisons for the poor condition of jails. IM/KK
