Gullah/Geechee Riddim Radio continued its celebration of “Black History/African Heritage Month” 2013 by airing Gullah/Geechee Faith and Freedom 02/11 by GullahGeechee Riddim | Blog Talk Radio.   Tune in to learn about the history of Henry McNeal Turner who was a minister that later became the first southern bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Turner was born to free Blacks in South Carolina.   However, in 1883 during the US Civil War, he was appointed the first Black chaplain for the US Colored Troops in Georgia.  He remained in that state and got elected to the legislature there in 1898.

Turner’s Mandigo roots and ancestry no doubt made him the fighter for freedom that he was.  On this episode, Queen Quet examines the life of Henry McNeal Turner and that of yet another leader in the AME Church, Denmark Vesey.
