Nautilus CARES is a public relations campaign by prospective experimental seabed mining company Nautilus Minerals. The program is meant to convince the public and politicians that the proposed open-cut strip mining operations on the seafloor will have a minimal environmental impact. But Nautilus CARES is based on lies and misinformation.
The favourite line from Nautilus is that its seabed mining operation will be an “enclosed system” in which mined rock and dust will not be free to spread through the ocean disturbing fish stocks and other marine life.

What Nautilus is proposing is an open-cut strip mining operation on the seafloor. There will be nothing “enclosed” about it.
