Bahrain: Weapons vs. Human Rights #occupydsei
30 aug 2013
In Bahrain, democracy protesters have been met with fierce repression. Protesters have been tortured, imprisoned, injured and killed. On 7 August, King Hamed suspended the right to protest, warning protesters they would be met with force.
On the same day, he met David Cameron at Number 10 to finalise the details of another arms purchase.
The UK is promoting weapons over human rights and giving legitimacy to repression.
In September, the Bahraini government will again be in London to shop for more weapons at the arms fair.
Not only the United States, Britain and Canada export weapons to the dictatorship in Bahrain.
There is Finland as well. Finnish corporation Nokia, in partnership with German corporation Siemens, plays a role in torture in Bahrain.
