Police ‘failing victims of domestic abuse’ in London | London Evening Standard

New figures show the capital has the worst domestic abuse conviction rate in the country and there are calls for the Met’s new commissioner, Cressida Dick, to overhaul the way crimes are investigated.

Only 64 per cent of domestic abuse prosecutions led to a conviction in the capital in 2015/16 compared with 74 per cent in the South-East and 80 per cent in Merseyside and Cheshire.

London’s rate is 10 per cent lower than the national average.

Sandra Horley CBE, chief executive of charity Refuge, said: “For too long women in London have been let down by an inadequate police response to violence against women and girls.
